DAY 1
I went to the festival grounds. It has been a busy place lately and so I figured I’d get some new losses. Also I haven’t grid searched all of it yet and I have pulled some oldies in the past. I gridded part of the grass parking area outside the grounds. It was hot and the ground was dry and hard so not easy digging.
I spent 5 hours swingin the CZ21 and found 71 coins with a face value of $3.91, a foreign coin, a wheatie, some jewelry, an aluminum tag, a drug pipe, foil, can slaw, aluminum bottle caps, a big steel hook, some tent pegs and 26 tabs.
The foreign coin is a Hong Kong $2 coin. In US dollars it is worth about a quarter. The wheatie is a 1951 S. It was right on top of the ground, a recent loss, possibly from grand dad’s coin jar.
The silver earring was about 2 inches down. It is marked MEXICO 925. The half pendant was on the edge of the gravel drive that runs between the grass parking rows. It was in the gravel and has obviously been run over that’s why it is so bent up. It is marked STERLING with a makers mark. It is half of a MIZ PAH COIN with 2 hearts that read THE LORD WATCH BETWEEN ME AND THEE WHILE WE ARE ABSENT ONE FROM ANOTHER GENESIS XXI49.
DAY 2
I went to a swimming area I haven’t visited this year yet. I have found several diamond rings here in the last. Since they removed the concession stand this park hasn’t been as busy and hasn’t produced a lot. I still get a goodie occasionally so I keep coming back.
I spent 2.5 hours swingin the ATPro and covered all the water and all of the beach. I found 12 coins with a face value of $1.04, a little jewelry, 2 selfie stick retainers, a heavy duty padlock, a fish hook, a little foil, and 3 bottle caps.
The earring looks like it is silver, but is unmarked so probably not silver. The earring backs are cheapie as well. Not a lot, but at least it was something.
DAY 3
I had such good luck last time I went back to the festival grounds to see if my luck would continue. I spent 5 hours swingin the CZ21 and found 102 coins with a face value of $6.03, a wheatie, 3 railroad pennies, a small padlock, a key, a bottle opener, can slaw, aluminum bottle caps, foil, a vaping device, tent pegs (not surprising because they use the parking area for camping during some festivals) and 17 tabs.
The railroad tracks run right beside the grounds and some people like to put coins on the tracks to be flattened when the train passes (2 or 3 times every day). I call them railroad pennies.
The bottle opener is ferrous and is in bad shape. It is the kind that hangs on the side of a commercial store type cooler that was in all the grocery stores when I was growing up. I put a wire brush on my drill and gave it a quick going over to reveal that it is a Coca Cola opener and not a Pepsi opener.
DAY 4
I went to the older scout camp (opened in 1950) to see if I could scare up another silver. I did find a few things, but silver was not one of them.
I spent 5.5 hours swingin the CZ21 and found 37 coins with a face value of $2.29, a ring, a wheatie, 2 scout pins, a hat pin, some bullets, half a key, a rope tensioner, a military blank (LC 77), a large copper nail, copper pipe and wire, can slaw, foil, assorted tent pegs, 21 tabs and a pencil end.
When the ring popped out it was full of hard packed dirt and it looked like silver. I got the dirt out and started to clean out the inside looking for a mark and it started to bend way too easily. When it bent the plating came off and I could see it wasn’t silver.
The wheatie is a decent looking 1951. Both scout pins are Second Class rank pins. Two different styles, one with the overhand knot as part of the pin and the other with a separate knot that is missing. The hat pin celebrates the 30th anniversary of the Baltimore Orioles in 1984.
NON DETECTOR FINDS
I found a quarter in the vending machine coin return, a Canadian quarter and a messed up penny in the coin star and 2 quarters on the sidewalk on our evening walks. Nothing great but it does add up.
2 more silvers so 19 silvers since my year began May 1st and decent gas money. Thanks for looking, stay safe, good luck and may your coil lead you to good things.
