I was recently running some errands with my 21 year old daughter which included stopping at a couple of banks. After making a deposit to my safe deposit box at the first bank, I saw that there was no one in line at the counter, so I decided to go up and ask about half dollars. The counter teller said she had none, but the drive through teller piped up and said she had $11. I agreed to take them off her hands. As I was exchanging my currency for the half dollars, my daughter and I could see that the two loose half dollars were silver, while the other 20 were in a customer wrapped roll. My daughter got more excited than I was and quietly said, "Look, silver." I quickly grabbed the half dollars, thanked the teller, and rushed out so no one could claim that I had received the coins in error. Once in the car, my daughter started urging me to open the roll (as if I could wait to get home before opening it). All the rolled half dollars except for two were silver. Out of 22 half dollars, 20 were 40% silver! The three attached photographs are from this score.

We then stopped at a second bank so my daughter could withdraw some cash. The second bank had $90 of customer wrapped half dollar rolls. I saw nothing but clad when I peeked in a couple of the rolls out in the car, so I waited until we got home to go through them. There was one sole 40% silver in the batch. Not as good as from the first bank, but I'll take it.

Sweet cull. For all you newbies - the lesson to be learned is to always buy them all. No matter if you think they are dumps. Buy them all. Nice score, Sitman.

:icon_thumleft: Great score! Congrats! Was any of them a 1970? That is the hardest one to get. A lot of us including myself are still looking for 1 of them. Again Congrats & HH (Happy Hunting)

Very nice!!!!

Awesome, congrats on the find!

Unfortunately, no. The breakdown for the 21 half dollars was fairly typical: 2x1966, 8x1967, 4x1968D, and 7x1969D. I have yet to find a 1970, D or S.

nice. i have been buying kennedy half rolls for a while now, usually 2 rolls at a time. my best one had 4 40% coins. one roll had a 1964 90% silver. keep buying they are still some out there.

That would make my day any day! That's also great that your daughter was with you...sounds like she is learning from a pro!

Out of morbid curiosity, what were the 2 clad ones?

The two clad half dollars were dated 1972 and 1989P. They were both in average circulated condition. They were side by side inside the roll and not on the end as I have shown in the photograph. It was very odd that there was a full roll of $10 of 40% silver, but that two of the half dollars were not inside the roll.

YAHTZEEEE!!

H$H!

Maybe someone was planning to put a full roll of silver, and two clads separately, but made a mistake.
