Recommendations for Murphys/Angel Camp area

I will be up in the area in a few weeks and looking to take my son out metal detecting a bit to get him more excited about the sport. We have a Garrett Pro so can do land or shallow water. Any recommendations on areas that are accessible and legal and where we might have some fun would be much appreciated.
