Hello,

I was redirected over here for a second opinion. I am leaning towards a barite nodule, but want to make sure this isn’t something crafted. I have zero experience in this stuff, but found this on a mountain ridge on a friend’s property near Lookout Mountain at the GA/TN/AL line. It was not near running water but near jagged limestone in a forest.

Looks like a nodule of chert maybe. I think the pits are too deep and irregular for anything a Native American would be pecking on
 

Looks natural to me, I don't see any signs of work in pictures.
