I found these iron relics in two different nearby streams. Both streams are next to railroads, and both had Civil War troop movement in the area. The backs appear no different than what is show in the image.

Thanks in advance!

the top item rather reminds me of the type of strapping equipment used to ship cotton bales. It is even possible that both items are involved in same type of shipments...a simple guess...

What are they?

"Horse tack" refers to the hardware used in horse harnesses, bridles, and on saddles - a wide variety of buckles, loops, cinches, and guides.

Yes, thanks. I guess what I meant is I don't think all loops, rings, buckles, cinches, etc. should be generically classified as horse tack when so many of them were not horse tack at all.
"Horse Tack" seems to have become a convenient catch-all for all sorts of unidentified things.

Thanks for the responses. I wasn't sure if they were something very specific, or just utilitarian iron pieces.

As indicated in my status, this if my first posting, so I'm not entirely sure of how long to keep something open. My gut tells me that they are links or buckles that could have been used on just about anything, including for horses. I was hoping to hear especially about the bottom rectangular piece that it was something very specific.
