Removing rust deposits from iron objects

I usually don't dig a lot of iron objects, but I do have a few that are encrusted with rust.? How do I remove this?? Do I soak it in something or use force such as a hammer?

Yup Jeff is right Electrolysis is the way to go with rusty iron. You will be amazed by the magic it does. A little scary to use on coins though. I certainly wouldnt use it on coins seems like it would take away some metal. But i might be wrong on that one.

For iron.....Only way to go.
