Rescued & Restored

Hi Everyone,

I found this yesterday and spent around 4 hours last nite in cleaning/preserving.

It came up as a very strong copper signal at 2 inches deep.

Fortunately it was face down in the bottom of the hole.

I know that State Farm & Farm Bureau parted ways back in the 1930's. Judging from the auto on the tag, I'd say we're in the right time frame.

This is a new kind of find for me. Anyone seen/dug anything like this?

Going out again when daylight breaks....

Happy Hunting!

Nice find, what did you use on the surface for the restoration?

PepperJ,

This thing was COVERED in crud. I wiped away enough to see the old car and then waited till I got home to proceed.

I washed it using a mild detergent and a toothbrush, gave it a good soaking in olive oil, toothpicked it and then I got brave - delicately using small pieces that I cut from a scotchbrite pad. I stayed away from the red paint as much as possible.
