Hey All I'm Dennis from NJ and I live very close to a State Forest which I know the main craft out this way is bog iron, and glassworks. I don't want to go and search for iron all day but I do want to look at some of our heavily used seaside beaches. It is winding down from the tourist season. I have a kayak and I think I can get out to some remote areas and maybe some of the wrecks that I can dive to. I am doing the research now on different types of Metal Detectors and I know to make the initial investment it might be expensive. But I know it will pay for itself if I use it frequently. So I will be lurking about asking questions, I used to collect bottles, but I think treasure hunting sounds more exotic. I hope to learn from you all, there is so many youtube videos that I have watched which are so entertaining and exciting. I want to save my money and maybe get the Garrett AT Pro as my first detector. I hear good things about them.
I will also be obtaining a handheld pinpointer probe which I will have to waterproof. All in all I need to put away some cash to make this an exciting retirement activity. Thanks for letting me join the ranks with you all and I hope to be able to show off my finds. If anyone wants to know anything about kayak fishing or Heroes On The Water Organization send me a pm.

Thanks. Sorry for my intro rant. I was just over thinking what to write.

:hello2:Hi, Dennis

Just a note: The AT pro is only water proof for up to ten feet I think. you may consider the sea hunter. I have no real experience with either detector but I did see the depth info for the AT pro somewhere. Good luck and Welcome!

You might consider browsing Sub-Forums: New Jersey for information (i.e., clubs, hunts, finds, legends, maps, etc.) directly related to your state.

Hello and welcome to the forum Dennis!

Welcome Dennis! The At pro will work , but if you are exclusively beach and water hunting, there may be better choices. One of the best is the Minelab Excalibur II, it's waterproof to 200 feet, and will keep you from digging a lot of small iron nails and bobby pins. The AT Pro is good to 10 feet of depth, not something you would use with scuba gear, but it is a great all terrain detector.

Thank you all for the welcome. I have been looking at all the pictures that people post and are asking what is it? I am very impressed with everyone's knowledge. I am enjoying all the research on this site. I hope that someday I get the right Detector. I am currently trying to save up enough to get a decent one to use around some ghost towns and abandoned fields. Thanks again
Dennis

Well here we are in the middle of September. I joined just a few weeks ago and I have my first State Forest Permit and I am very excited to say that I sold one of my old fishing kayaks and bought myself a Garrett AT Pro Adventure Pack which comes with the digging tool and sheath, a treasure pouch, a deluxe detector bag, a 8.5"x 11" coil cover, and land headphones. I will post my finds if they are good enough, Happy Hunting!
