So.. thought I'd give another shot today.. and wouldn't you know it.. more coins. I pulled a Standing Liberty (no date) between two ferrous signals. I was surprised it was a quarter by the sound.. was expecting a dime.

Total keepers for the day:

? ? ? ? Standing Liberty Quarter
1906 Indian Head (same year as yesterday)
1940 S Wheat
1945 S Wheat
1945 S Wheat

Thanks for looking!

It has 3 stars under the eagle on the back. I hear that's 1917 - 1930.

Your adjustment sure shows a '6' in there. Maybe 1926?

I see 1916 as well.

The Standing Liberty Quarter was produced from 1916 through 1930, continuously except for the year 1922.

Legend has it that complaints arose concerning the partial nudity of Miss Liberty. It is rumored that Miss Liberty's exposed right breast was offensive to some and due to this the design was changed part way through 1917. Others believe that the motif was revised to show Miss Liberty nearly completely encased in a suit of armor or mail, probably in reference to preparedness for the World War then raging in Europe. In 1925, the date was recessed on the step to minimize wear, resulting in a minor type change for issues of 1925-1930.

The reverse was also restyled in 1917. In the new design the eagle is higher and more centered on the coin, with three stars below the eagle and five to each side. This redesign is referred to as the Type II quarter.

Very interesting!!! Good to know. I wonder if we're seeing 1918, I could see the 8 looking like a 6 for sure.

Wow great finds! I have not found any silver yet but I am new at this and I will find them one day soon. What is a ferrous signal?

Hello

Thanks!! The ferrous signal is basically iron or low-conductive metals. My detector breaks down tones between ferrous and conductive tones. Conductive = good (coins), Ferrous = bad (unless you're going for relics).

So when I was sweeping the target I get three tones close together

Sweeping left to right.. and right to left I would get the following

beep (low tone) beep (high quick tone) beep (low tone)

I was able to isolate the 'high quick tone' enough to lock a pinpoint... and that turned out to be the quarter. The yard is full of nails, so I'm assuming those ferrous sounds were nails.

Thanks!
