So I went back to the hill that I went to yesterday and found 7 silver coins I got 3 Mercs to Roosevelt, and to war Nichols. today I found this really nice Zippo uploadfromtaptalk1400630026063.webp not sure if it is silver or not maybe stainless steel but it came up as silver as my dimes did came up as a solid 85 then I found another Roosevelt dime 1960 duploadfromtaptalk1400630244781.webpuploadfromtaptalk1400630256892.webp and as I was covering up the whole with that dime I
Immediately Swung my coil over the next target which was a bottle cap I knew that's what it was so I just kicked the top of the leaves an sticks a strange looking bottle cap was uncovered never seen one before anybody knows what its called please let me know uploadfromtaptalk1400630413625.webpuploadfromtaptalk1400630424776.webp and that was the hunt for the day I hope you enjoy and any comments are welcome as always thank you and happy hunting.

Cool cap I've never seen one like that ( great finds)

Bottlecap with built in opener , really cool

I've seen those posted here before. Like baseball beer related

Maybe thats how they got the name Bottle Cap ( they looked like a cap ( hat ).:laughing7:

If the Zippo is not working send it back to Zippo and they will repair it for free. Great company. Just google Zippo to get instructions.

What's baseball beer?

Thanks I just might do that I actually like it I have no use for it but to restore it to working order again it would be worth it thanks to the info

very interesting cap, but I don't know anything about it

You might be onto something with the hat cap it really does look like one

Congrats on the zippo. It's a very nice one. Oh btw being that I don't have it in my hand but I can pretty much bet that's silver. For a few reasons actually. Zippo produced silver cases, looks silver, and I have found two of them myself. Not sterling but both where pretty jumpy. Solid 85 and the looks of it. Has to be silver.

Awesome I was hoping it was silver it even had that sweet silver tone if you know what I mean thanks for your insight

That I do my friend

Zippos in silver or gold will be marked, silver is easy to test, check for marks inside bottom of case , tarnished silver will have a strong sulphur smell

You can go to Zippo web page and find their date codes to tell age. I think most were made w/brass. Maybe a nickle coating? Good luck.

It's prob 1950s as well

You can tell the age from a picture ?

Im willing to bet that bottle cap has most of its paint under neath the rust - head to some hardware stores (or look online) and inquire about "oxalic acid" (often labeled as wood bleach - or a component in deck wash) - for just a cap - I would say get a cup of water or so -hot water - (probably do this outside....at least don't sniff the fumes) - add a few tablespoons of oxalic acid powder/crystal - put the cap in and see what happens ..should take the rust off revealing the beer brand (or at least part of it) beneath - I think that cap is 50s/60s is I recall - but unsure - if you are cleaning it and the acid starts eating the paint or washing out the colors - take it out - you might want to let it cool for a few minutes after mixing before putting the cap in - gloves are a good idea too - that stuff does dry out your hands.....

That cap looks like the ancestor of the beaver tail! First one I have seen. Thanks for posting the pics. A member just posted a quick way to check for silver. Wet the lighter and wrap it in aluminum foil. He says it should start making a crackling/popping noise within a minute or so and you should get the sulfur smell Shawn mentioned. It's a form of electrolysis, I guess.
