Rev. war item?

I live in an area of NY where Rev. War troops were camped. Not sure if this item is from a uniform or what, but would appreciate any help. It's too difficult to see in a photo, so hope this is enough. It looks to be brass or copper. If you are familiar with golf, it looks just like a golf ball marker you'd use on the green. It has a flat top about 2/3 the size of a dime with the outline of a five point star right in the middle and no other writing. The bottom tapers into a rounded point and is about 1/4 inch long.
