This was an unusual find. It is the reverse of an early nickle. I posted it next to another legitimate nickle I found. I don't know if it was used to counterfeit coins or what. Just a strange find. The back side is flat with no markings

Wow. I wonder if you have something there.....

What do ya think it's made from?

skeeterd,

... I couldn't tell you but it didn't appear heavy/thick enough to take too many blows with a hammer. I ended up sending to another collector so I no longer have in my possession. I kept record of it since I had never seen anything like it before. I still don't know what it was used for. If it was a dye for stamping bogus nickles, I would have thought it would have been thicker and of a much harder metal. To this day I haven't a clue what its purpose was.

Very interesting! Maybe someone here will have a clue about it.

I thought one time maybe it was a mold for candy ????

It looks like a pressed coin to me. Someone put the coin into a press with a 1901 nickle on the back and pressed the 1901 design into the back of the 1895 coin. I think it is nothing... Sorry.

The 1895 coin was pictured just for similarity. The back side of the reverse coin is just nondescript flat metal. The reverse is about the same thickness as a legitimate nickle. Still a mystery to me. ???
