Revolutionary war site...

I found this at a revolutionary war site today. It was 10" deep. I don't know if it's a rev relic or newer. Any help would be appreciated.

Possibly a pot hanger.

Or a flint striker for making fire. These are modern made, but they come in lots of different shapes and sizes.

Thanks for the info. I like the pot holder idea I didn't think of that. Both theories make perfect sense.
