I guess it's possible, but the flute could have happen when it broke?
If you find/study enough flint/chert debitage, you'll notice a lot of "fluting". The proper terms are channel, channel flake, thinning, reduction. Your piece has a big nasty flaw right smack dab down the center. Chances are, if it was worked by man, he was trying to get rid of that portion during the reduction process. I believe that you have a nice piece of debitage.
