Rhododendron 'Spatter Paint'

Earliest I've seen this bloom. Usually (on good years) blooms Feb. 27 or 28, but this year a full week earlier: Spatter Paint. I think the photos speak for themselves. What you can't see is that this particular rhododendron also has a pleasant aroma, something rather rare in the genus.

Re: Rhododendron 'Spatter Paint'

Gorgeous pics. Spring has come early here too. We have daffodils in full bloom everywhere right now and the pear tree has buds all over it. All I can think of is, the ticks wil be especially bad this year. :tard:

Thanks, Feline! Yep, another early year here. I'm hoping that means this year I'll have a garden. Last year had so much rain I didn't get to plant a thing until April, and by June we were soaking again allllll moonnthhhhh looooong.

Eeeeeeeeek, we had a bit of a dry summer. Here's the prediction for your neck of the woods. Lets see how accurate it is. It's been very accurate for us this year.......so far LOL

Re: Rhododendron 'Spatter Paint'

Well ... I suppose you could call anything similar to what we've had so far. We have lots of daffodils in bloom today, along with rhododendrons and andromeda, but no daphe blooming yet. (I've got one Daphne odora with lots of buds, but nothing else.)

It's been raining ... and raining ... and raining some more ... and raining. Typical Oregon, at least according to Steinbeck: "It was raining and it was cloudy and it was Oregon." Or something like that.<G>

Nearly record snowpack that lasts for a week, then gets obliterated. We've had multiple feet of snow followed by warm rain immediately following by another foot to 14 inches of snowfall, which is why Oregon and Washington have been having more avalanches than normal.

Not nearly as much freezing weather as I anticipate yearly. And our week of nearly summer weather which usually happens in early February ... didn't happen this year. Today started out very windy with a deluge of nearly .75 inch in 10-15 minutes, then almost immediately clearing and sunny. Temp as low as 39 this morning and nearly 60 for a high. Now overcast, less wind, and cooling down rapidly. Maybe 42 at 6:30pm.

Thanks for the compliments, guys! This is planted in front of my house. Along with 2 well-attended hummingbird feeders. Birds are still feeding strong now, but fresh nectar is their preferred food.
