I live in Newfoundland, Canada. I was metal detecting in the community of Calvert which was settled in the 1600's. I found what appears to be a button. The face is completely wore off, but on the back it still reads " RICH ORANGE STANDARD COLOUR". Just wondering what the date might be

Your pictures didn't post but, from your description you have a British made button that would probably date from the late 1700s to the mid 1800s. Is it one piece?

I was detecting in an area north of Cincinnati Ohio and also found a button, corroded and difficult to read, but on the back the words Rich and orange were visible. Would like to know if anyone has any information on its origin.

Early-mid 1800s button, probably civilian if there's nothing on the front (most of them had no decorations on the obverse). Rich/orange are some of the many quality designations that referred to the gold gilt color of the button that has since worn away.
