Rifle butt plate?

Found this on a 100+ year old farm today. Is it a part of a gun stock?

4-1/2 inches long x 1 inch wide x 3/8 inch high. weight=4 oz.

I really don't think it is part of a bed, but could be a door latch except it is too thick for the door jamb. I was thinking the butt of a small gun stock, maybe a single shot .22.

I guess its the size of a rifle butt but is it ferrous? Doesnt look like a rifle butt.

There used to be a door lock that had two bolts.One full turn of the key opened one and the second turn opened the other.These were normally on houses from the '20's/30's,maybe earlier.Looks like the end plate from one of those double locks.
