:D ;D :o

So here is my Saturday haul.
1 hour at local Elementary School netted the necklace
1 hour at 1870s one-room schoolhouse netted nothing
2 hours at a High School netted many pennies and the over-alls clip
1 hour at soccer field netted the wedding band and most of the change, oh and a slip sinker. I like soccer fileds.

There are no markings on the chain whatsoever. It's very heavy and non-magnetic. How can I determine if it's solid gold? Take a look at the clasp. Anyone seen a clasp like this before? Seems like a pretty risky set-up to put on a valuable chain. On the other hand, it looks sorta like it was "bent" into that form, which one could do with a soft metal like gold.

The ring is a 14K Ben Bridge comfort-fit. I have to admit it was thrilling to see the beautiful gold glare emerge from the dark earth. Very different from tying to discern a corroded penny from the soil.

Thanks to everyone's

Re: Ring and necklace both in 1 day- First Gold Ever!!!--Nice

jewelers test wth a scratch and nitric acid, the less it bubbles, the better the gold
-Tom,ps,can you give us details on what the ring and chain sounded like, detector used, meter reading if any, etc?

You bet. The necklace was an eyeball find. It was raining (yesterday) and cold but I got impatient waiting for my Fiance to get going for the day so I took the 'tector to the school around the corner for a few minutes. Frustration served me well! The necklace was in the little ballfield playing shortstop. Granted the machine didn't find it, but God knows I would NOT have been at an elementary school in the cold and rain at 8AM if it wasn't for this great hobby.

I have a White's Classic II, only adjustments are Sensitivity (it was cranked) and Disc. which was at about 25% (below the factory's "ring range"). There is no screen or meter. The ground (regualr clean soil) was very very wet.

The ring sounded like the coins I was finding abundantly in the soccer field. I have recently "learned" what ferrous sounds like w/my machine and have been digging only non-blippy, consistent, repeatable sounds (non-ferrous). The ring, like the coins, had a distinct, solid sound. The sound has a definite beginning and end. It's a "symmetrical" sound, if you will. It was 3.5 inches down.

I was digging ALL repeatable signals for a while, but I've been having MUCH more fun self-discriminating (by ear) and getting a higher "fun" return on my 'tectin' time. I'm sure I miss things, but I cover MUCH more ground now.

Dragging just about any ring from the earth can give a smile for the day, but pulling out a gold band will give a smile every time you look at it and remember back to the day you found it. Well done!!

You got to love the gold...The necklace looks great.

Great finds, I've never checked out a soccer field. I guess it does make a lot of sense though, but congrats on your first gold and hope many more will come your way.

Looks like one BRILLIANT day out!!!!!

AWESOME gold!!!!!!!!!!! :o

Have fun,
Salvager

I worked at a jewelers and my friend from Laos had a 24k chain like that....could be real. That clasp is normal for those type of chains.

Sweet asian gang bling. Very nice town you have out there,I used to visit most years and stay near Alkai beach, miss the ocean, the mountains but not the rain,HH...Shoot

Looks like a gold chain to me!!!!
Nice day!!
