Black to a real dark brown on dark end and a creamy almost clear translucent body.

Oh okay I see now that its multiple colors, Not sure what it is, I thought just the dark part was the stone.... Someone should be able to figure it out for you

Re: Ring count closing in on 60, nice sterling with cool stone

I believe it is Hematite. I found one on a 14K setting and the stone color was black on one end and almost a brown color on the other end. It seems the years in the ground changes the color. I am not sure if you can polish them back to origonal color. The stone in the one I found was the exact same shape as yours, and these were very popular in the late 60's, early 70's.

Alaskan Hematite. Hematite, known as Alaska's Black Diamond

With the clearer pictures I'd also say hemitite

Sweet ring, Victorian i'd say !! :o :headbang:

Keep @ It and HH !! ;D :D

I have a stone just like that in my rock collection and I cant remember the name!!! >:( Kewl find though :hello2: :laughing7:

It's Agate. Sure is beautiful. I like it!
I really like the way they cut the stone to use the "V" of the colors in it. Nice bit of artistry by the jeweler. I wish it had a makers mark love to see their other offerings.

Rasputin nailed it , it is agate -specifically "Montana moss agate" the setting is absolutely
beautiful - and perfectly compliments the stone . If i had found that ring , I would be so
jacked - that would hands down be my favorite ring - and I've been fortunate to dig about
120 silver rings and 8 gold in 3 and a half years of detecting (turf only) . Argentium.

Bingo, thats what I thought after looking at hermatite I didn't see any examples like this stone.

Nice find!! The stone is an agate. They usually dye stones like that to make onyx. Onyx is dyed black agate. Some are also called sardonyx. keep up the good hunting.

Your killing on the rings,,,thats a nice stone.
