i found this ring , again years back.on the in side: sterling 10k gold top. i can tell from the top its plated. I'm just wonder what kind of stone is on it.. i tried to scan a pix of the back of the ring and had no luck. i have heard that if its got a hole in the back of the ring were you can see the stone that it would be a real stone. any info thank you :)

Jon, My guess is that it's some sort of class ring, but that's just a stab in the dark. Does it have any engravings on the inside or on the outside that are visible? You were all excited with the iron pieces I found at the McCoy Estate and said, "I wish I could find things like that." But I think you're doing fine with this. I haven't found a ring yet!

its got sterling and 10k gold top but i can tell the top is plated. i was just wondering what the stone was. there was another post about a ring being from the girl scouts or some thing of the sort. i got other small silver rings that i found at a school that was torn down years ago

The girl scout thing is a possibility too, it doesn't look like a regular jewelry piece, that's why I said class ring. If you remember the area you found it, maybe that will be a good step in identifying it.

i found the ring with the stone in it on a lot after the house was tore down along with a obit of some one who died in the 70s that was sealed in plastic i for got his name now but long ago i got a hold of his family from some of the names on the obit. he gave me his address and i was going to mail it and with moving years ago i lost it. it mad me sad. i found a steel SS# card with the guys name on it and I'm still trying to find his kin. but no luck as of yet: Lawrence Roland Owens i know he was born in 1919 and died in Allen co KY in 1962 sorry for so long of a post :) i wish i could find his kin to see if they wanted it for a keep sake :(

i often wonder about some of the things i find like the ring, who wore it what were they like. they tore down a school a few years ago and i found several silver rings that were small. i at the time thought did these kids cry after they found there ring was gone. also the money that i found there (coins) did they lose there milk money or for there lunch. I'm just like that some times. the only gold ring i found was in a field by a rest home :) thanks for your post

Jon,

From the pic it looks like either amethyst or iolite.
Looks more like amethyst to me, tho.
