I know, but I thought that crown was used in the 1700's. I know it's not that old, but I was hoping maybe someone could tell me what's up with it.

Might be British pre-1975. Not sure.

Just tidying up some blasts from the past (including some very ancient ones), largely for the benefit of anyone searching the site for information.

Not British. Looks like the German ‘sun and crown’ hallmark for gold, in use since 1886. The fineness mark would be alongside it, but it could be 14K rolled gold rather than solid. The equivalent silver mark is also a crown, but with a crescent moon alongside it.
