Hey guys, I am looking for any information on the Battle of Ringgold Gap in Ringgold Georgia I have family in Ringgold and I am planning on doing some relic hunting there in a week or two. They live a 1 or 1 1/2 miles from the monument that recognizes the Hijacking of "The General" locomotive in 1862 or 63 I believe. Some of you may know some about that. I am really looking for any info about where the battle may have taken place and any info on possible routes they traveled. I know there were thousands of troops in the area. If any of you have ANY information about the Battle or any info about Ringgold in general it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

This one's really cool: http://www.civilwar.gatech.edu/

I got all that in less than one minute by google "battle of Ringgold"

Ringgold is right up the road from Dalton, Resaca, and Chickamauga. The area is ate up with places. Get in touch with the detecting club in Ringgold by email and see if there is anyone who might take you out while you are visiting. I live about 45 minutes down I-75 in Cartersville. Ringgold is less than 30 minutes down the road from Missionary Ridge too. There are places literally everywhere in the area. I-75 just north of Dalton was built right on the Confederate trenches. If you just can't find anywhere to hunt send me an email and maybe I can help. I have a few sites but they are down around Cassville and Euharlee...and Allatoona. I also have some buddies who have sites to hunt around here. Your best bet still may be the area club: http://www.dixierelic.com/ buckyb@dixierelic.com (they are in Ringgold!)

Here's another site for you: http://www.gatewaytogeorgia.com/catoosa/catoosa.php

I have a copy of William Scaife's book: The Campaign For Atlanta You'd be welcome to drive down and have a look at it. It has some really good maps that Scaife did himself after research and they also have main roads like the Interstate and Hwy 41 etc so you can tell where you need to look and where things happened.

Do your homework and you will find something during your visit. Don't be shy... call and email the club and get someone to take you hunting. This time of the year the snakes are not a problem and you may be able to talk someone into taking you up onto Rocky Face Ridge. That would be a good place to go...

Well, good luck to you and I hope this helped some.

Julien

PS... when are you going to visit and how long are you going to be there?
