River Pirates...

I am so looking forward to doing some detecting on the Ohio River where river pirates were known to frequent. I've yet to get a real good detector but am just dying to get out there. Anyone got any useful info that might help me in my search such as trends or what to look for? I expect to find clad and jewelry along the shores from the modern day boaters as they party hearty in this area too.
