I went to pick up my Thursday box but it didn't come in. The teller wasn't sure if they forgot to order it or not, but she was able to scrounge me $350 in rolls. No silver but I found an 87-D, an 06-P, and a gold plated 73. The 73 wasn't counter stamped for one of anniversary's but had a decent plating job.

Friday my wife wanted to go shopping in an area I haven't checked banks before. I cashed in the halves I had, got another $1,200 in cash and we headed out. We checked a total of 14 banks. Half of the banks had $33 total from the teller drawers with no keepers. From the ones that had more:

Bank #1 was in a really small town and had $100, found 1 68-D

Bank #2 had 4 rolls, skunk

Bank #3 had $55.50 in rolls and loose. When the teller was counting out the loose ones I saw a mirrored finish on one. When I got out to the truck I checked and found a very nice looking 1987-S Proof. The rolls had 1 68-D

Bank #4 I asked the teller about halves and she told me they were a hot commodity with so many people looking for silver. Thats the first time a teller has said anything like that to me. I heard another teller tell her they had $230 in halves. She told me I could have $200 worth and I said OK. No keepers

Bank #5 was inside a grocery store. The teller said they had some halves in their counting machine but she didn't know how to sell them to me. The person who would know how would be back in 45 min. She took my cell number and said she would call me when the other girl got back. We were on our way out of that area and I hadn't got a call so I stopped back before we left. She said she was glad I stopped because they were really busy and she forgot to call me. The had $359 in the machine and I heard her grab it off the machine and bring it to me. I had high hopes for the bag but it was a skunk.

Banks #6 and #7 had $300 and $500 that we check today.

Bank #8 was one I check every 4 months or so and I made it there 5 min before they closed. They had $120 in rolls which had a 67 and a 69-D.

$907 checked on Thursday with only 4 40% and a proof, not a great percentage. We decided to save the other $800 for today.

Bank #6 had $300 in rolls which had 4x67, 1x68-D, 2x69-D, and 2x07-D. Much better than Fridays coins already.

Bank #7 the teller asked me why I was looking for halves and I told her I was filling albums. She had a look on her face like she was going to ask another question and before she could I said "I promise I won't bring the halves back here.". She asked me how I knew thats what she was going to ask me. I told I never take halves back where I got them because I'm a teller and don't like getting them back either. She was happy with what I told her so she said they had $500 in halves I could have.

My wife did an end search of the rolls while I was at work this morning and found 2 rolls with silver on the ends. We opened those two first, my roll had 4 silver and my wife's roll had 8. Thing were looking way up. in total in these rolls we found 4x64-D, 1x65, 2x66, 10x67, 11x68-D, and 5x69-D. I'm really glad I convinced the teller she should sell the halves to me.

Total for the trip: $1,707 searched 4x90%, 40x40%, 1xProof, and 2x07-D.

Overall it ended up being a pretty good road trip.

Congrats nice score

Nice job. Don't you love it when you have more experience with the whole halves thing than the tellers. Makes them putty in your hands.

HH.

Thanks Cat and Sheldius. Being nice to the tellers helping you is always a good thing. Knowledge is also a big plus. I'm not sure if it really helps, but now that I'm also a teller (part time) I can speak the language and relate to them when we're talking and trying to sell the coin bag out of the counting machine.

Please teach us some bank lingo. ;D

I get tired of asking for "customer wrapped rolls" and getting flat empty coin wrappers.

What is the best way to ask for rolls???

I have a bank that told me they were so small they didn't have a vault. Do you believe that? They are MAJOR player.
