Rock or petrified wood?

My daughter’s boyfriend gave me a few pieces of what he says is petrified wood. But I’m leaning more towards sandstone. What are your thoughts? All pieces are pretty heavy.

No expert, but it sure looks like petrified wood. Looks like rings in pics. 3,4, and 5. Pic 6 looks like classic petrified wood. IMHO

I think you’re right. Looks like the darker (burnt possibly) piece might be wood.
One piece has a quartz crystal vein.

What you have there is petrified wood. It is a low quality example. I find the the same here in Montana, and some is still associated with parts still in a coal stage. Petrified wood!
