Rock with layers/rings?

Hey, I'm not really a rock guy, but when I see an interesting rock I have to pick it up. This rock has rings similar to a tree trunk when you cut it. Is this anything special? Thanks!

I agree. Though we have chert nodules here that look similar, but different color. In what state did you find it?

It was found in North Dakota in some landscape rocks in a parking lot, so no idea where it might have actually come from.

The gravel came from somewhere close by.
It doesn't pay to ship driveway gravel too far. Sand and gravel quaries are often aluvial deposits so the rocks in them might have come from somewhere far away.
Other people have posted pics of agates found in their gravel.
I have found small terminated quarts crystals in gravel that comes from a couple of miles behind my house.
Now that you know what to look for you should find more.

That is very nice. Great color, face and banding pattern. It reminds me a lot of some of the lake superior agates I find around Minnesota. Thanks for sharing.
