Obverse, urbs Roma. Reverse, Romulus and Remus suckling on the she wolf. Struck under constantine the great 330-337ad. Not bad condition considering it’s nearly 1700 years old. Happy hunting to you all!

Great find, congratulations to you two! Sub 8-)

WoW! Very cool coin!

Very Nice!!! Congrats!!!

Very nice coin

Very nice old coin save. Congrats

Like the others say... GREAT FIND! It's hard to imagine that coin hiding all these years (centuries), and how it stayed in decent condition, amazing. Who held it last? Why or how was it lost? Things well never know but enjoy fantasizing about. Ddf.

Awesome coin recovery, can't imagine recovering a 1700 year old anything, big congratulations to your brother

If your coin has the same mintmark as the one I showed ( ΓSIS in the exergue on the reverse) then it came from the mint at Siscia, the present Croatian city of Sisak.
Don......

Big congrats! :notworthy:

Probability would say Trier in Germany is far more likely.

It wasn't struck under Constantine I. It's actually classed as a 'Commemorative Issue' as it was struck after his death.

Hopefully if you grid the area there should be more about, if not you maybe 1 field off from the site.

Thanks for the info crusader! I hadn’t realised that was the case. We completed the small pasture about a month ago but we have now upgraded our detectors so went back Friday evening for a go. No Romans but found plenty just out of reach of the old garret. Fingers crossed I find one for myself!

Wow, that is in nice shape, well done!

The coin I posted was struck at Siscia, 334-335 AD, during the lifetime of Constantine I (2.73g, 19mm, RIC VII 240).
Don.......
I might be getting confused thats its a 'Commemorative Issue' but one of Rome (similar to the constantinoplis type), instead of the rest of the 'Comm Issues' that were after his death. (can't remember)

I would need a diaper if I ever dug one of those wow
