I found this at the old homesite where I have previously found a 1907 IH cent and 1890s shotshells. It has the image and name of Septimius Severus, the twentieth Emporer of the Roman Empire! The pictures aren't the best, and I stopped cleaning after I seen enough to google the name. I'm not suggesting that it's THAT old (he died in the year 211), just curious to know what it is and when it was made. The back is concave and has two bumps near the center. There is some "yellow" showing in a few places, but it reads as a cent on the Ace 250. Thanks for looking. Any ideas what it may be? Button? IMGP4457.webpIMGP4458.webp

Yes. It is a button. Likely 1800s. Congrats

very cool button

As they said.........Definately a button..........guessing early to mid 1800's? Nice find!!

Yes a coin button, not made from a coin just depicting one, we get quite a few over here. Buttons in the form of Roman coins date mainly from the second half of the 18th century. Nice find, they are very interesting and quite a lot of the Roman Emperors were shown on these buttons.

What part of N Texas?

Cumby , formerly called Blackjack Grove in the early years. Lots of history here. What part are you in? Here's an early photo of downtown.

Thank you, Silver Searcher! That answers several questions. I don't know anything about the folks who occupied this homesite (the landowner didn't even know about it until after he bought the land), but possibly UK or European immigrants....That's a very impressive list of banner finds that you've accumulated.

Good find with all the thousands of buttons I find every year, I only have one Roman coin (copy) button. I think they are pretty difficult to date as they did start in the late 18th C & they still make them today (I brought some modern versions recently).
I'm guessing yours is circa 1800ish

Thanks, Crusader. As with everything we find, "I wonder how it got here". You, too, have a very impressive list of banner finds. You guys are nailing it over there!:goldtrophy:

I'd call that a sweet surprise!

I'm a little over an hour North West of you in Denison. It's a small town with some history as well. I love that old picture. Makes you want to tear up all the streets just to hunt the soil below!
