Returned to the Roman site & gridded solo for 5 hours. Started the hunt with the first of the years frozen ground. It actually helped speed up the recovery process, keeping the sandy soil in nice lumps. Very pleased with the end result, which keeps my silver streak alive!

If my understanding of the Roman presence in Britannia was informed solely by your metal detecting results, I would imagine hundreds of years of at least weekly social events, all over the country, where the principal custom involved people throwing coins at one another.

You may be on to something there, ZK. Maybe that's how the sport of discus throwing got started, which has since morphed into frisbee golf!
