It was very windy but we only got hit by one shower in the 4 hour hunt, so better than we expected. The wind had also dried the wet mud surface.

This site is thought to be associated with a nearby Roman Quarry & it housed a small group of Roman Soldiers in relative comfort - under floor heating, large tiled roof, utilitarian mosaic, maybe a bath house?

One indicator that this is not your usual farmstead is the Silver to Bronze ratio of 1/20!

9 Scrappies
Roman Nails & Pottery
Frag of medieval Spur
18th C Clog Clasp
Only our 2nd Coin of Julia Paula AD220 - Debased SILVER8-)
Dad got a very rare early Iron Age Brooch - not much to look at but its basic design dates back to the 4th-3rd Century BC.

Wholly crud. May I come visit? How is your guest room situation? I can sleep on the floor. I feel good if I get a Wheatie instead of a Lincoln penny. I am going to have to hate you now. I will like your post but I hate you now.... But seriously if you want to trade some London digging time for some civil war Marietta Georgia time may be we could Visit each other :)

My guest room is a Museum, no room for non-metal objects/people!

If I did visit the US, Civil War & Spanish Silver would be my aim, but I get too many requests to honour them all, sorry.

A site with Terra Sigillata is often a better site! I'm sure some goodies will show up when iron age mixes in! Did you find some tile fragments of the underfloor heating? Still need one for display..

I saw many pieces of box tile (under floor type), & left them there.

We have had 1 Celtic Gold Coin & some Silver & bronze types as well, plus the odd Saxon Brooch. It's a good site, but not heavily concentrated.

Congrats on all your finds. Great finds as always!

Are these tiles circular like the ones we have here? Is it possible to take a pic for me the next time youre out there?
