Went to a large roman site today, pretty well hunted and sparse finds like expected... Not many options this time of the year. :dontknow:
Some finds turned up though!
Loads of roman pottery on a roman roof tile, nails, lead, trash, Musket balls, buttons, roman steelyard weight, modern coins of the day with a ??? in the lower left. Looks like an eagle on a globe...size like a quarter. Better finds were a scrappy roman Dupondius(?), a tiny leather mount and a Hitler Youth Pin, found in the trash after cleaning. Too bad with the condition, it's a first for me. Second pic is how it looked once.

The Nazi stuff is collectible (though grim)

In good condition yes. I don't care bout that stuff. It's history and not my primary collectors interest.

Thanks Bill! I was happy to get out another time before all fields are planted. Only the corn isn't in now.

Can't be any more grim than collecting a slave tag? or other things out there.

It's history. You or I wern't there!

Cheers All

Glad you're out Lu. Sorry no silver or gold. Is the silver colored war coin aluminum? You can tell by the lack of driving rings that area has been hit before. The shotgun shell bases we passed on yrs ago while still whole. And please translate the Hitler Youth pin. Good luck.

I know what you mean about this time of year, but it looked like a promising option, maybe worth sticking (gridding) at.

Hi Tim, the 50 Pfennig is aluminum and cleaned up well. Rarely happens. I like to look for the date, i never found one made later than 1944. They didn't minted a lot in the last months of war... Translation is HJ for Hitler Youth, Deutsche Arbeiter Jugend means German Workers Youth.

Yes Cru, it's an option, but i'm away the next three weeks so little chance to get there. Maybe later this year, it's a huge site, something was overlooked for sure. Most of the finds shown were found in a 15 meter strip from the gravel road into the field, the area nighthawks hunt grudgingly.
