round disc with "c" in middle

Hello everyone,

I dug this quarter-size disc with this "c" stamped on one side. The other side is blank. It read about 52 on the XLT. Any suggestions?

CAP, I've got two like that that have a "B" in the middle, blank on the other side. I found them next to the Battlesite of Gullifords Courthouse in Greensboro N.C. (Revolutionary Site). I found a buckle at the same site that the Curator for the Park said came off a Soldiers Knapsack from the Battle. They were about 8 inches under a huge Oak. Don't know what they are, but certainly old.
