Looks like a cog of some sort, do the small holes appear to be threaded?

are you sure about it being stone.metals will encrust with mineral deposits while in the water.

I'm nearly positive that it is stone because i accidentally chipped it.

Heavily encrusted metal object.

Saltwater silver turns out the same way.

once metal has been encrusted long enough its metal becomes replaced with local minerals,think fossils except in a hurry.I would guess NO WAY it was always stone but I believe you that it is mostly now.This is my simple guess.If it was made from stone originally than it is simply a"one of a kind"piece imo

I sure hope it gets solved,has peaked my interest

Looks like a valve spring retainer cup to me. Definitely Metal

it looks alot like part of a drag assmbly for a fishing reel...found similar
