✅ SOLVED Round, threaded, tapered, ornate...no clue!

Found this at a house that was built in 1700s and added on in 1800s. It’s about 1” high/long and 3/4” wide. Internal thread. Cast brass or bronze and may have been silver plated. The scroll-work is quite beautiful. It’s very hefty but no clue as to what it might be. Thanks for any insight!

Thanks Matt! Great to see your name on this forum yesterday and a few others I recognized. My detecting time had been scarce, but hoping to get out a bit more now.

The narrow "knurling" at the left edge near the threaded end is very similar to what you posted in the pic! The internal threading is coarse, but not coarse enough for a lightbulb as the poster above suggested (thanks for your post!). Will give it another day or so and then marked it as solved as it's very likely from an early gas coupling.

Nice call Walt & Matt! I believe you are correct. It resembles the bases to the Victorian gas petcocks that I've seen with a Google search, but I still have not found an identical match as the petcocks appear to be cast as one piece (minus the value). The ID of the threaded part is 5/8" and ID of the non-threaded end is 3/8". Interesting, upon closer inspection I see an approx 1/32" walled metal tube broken off in the non-threaded end. The length of the item is exactly 1".

Thanks brother! Yeah life got in the way a bit , but hoping to get out more. Please feel free to post your item on this thread too. I also found a fully-intact (maybe unused) lady's heel-plate with heart cutout. My first heel-plate I found a few years ago was missing a chunk--this is a real nice one and two silver Washington quarters in same hole which was my first silver in a few years now. With all the great stuff found here I was a bit embarrassed to post it, but was nice to do some detecting again.

Good eye. I was wondering what that was. I thought perhaps a piece of a steel male threaded item rusted inside, but sealant and its location makes more sense. Thanks!

Though I haven't found an exact match, I'm convinced that this is a piece to an 1800's brass gas light petcock assembly. Thanks again to Waltripcrew and DCMatt for the ID!
