Hello,

A while ago I found this rock in the woods by a stream covered in dirt. For geographical reference it was in northern Illinois. It is heavily rusted and looks to contain multiple different minerals in it including some shiny glass-like parts. It broke in half (hence the two pieces) and there are tube looking structures running through parts of it. Any idea on what this could be?

Figured it was worth IDing since it was so interesting looking. Thanks in advance.

Hmm. I'm thinking Limonite.

It does look like a type of iron ore. Try a streak test for powder color. Limonite should give a yellow-brownish streak.
