I found this today metal detecting and it was only about 6 inches underground. It is iron and magnetic. It appears to be hexagon shaped. I have it soaking in CLR to remove the rust. Is that a triangle in the middle?
Anyway, I'm wondering if it looks like a coin or if it is just junk.

Welcome!

Is it junk? Probably.

Is it always going to be junk? Definitely not.

Regardless of what this is, good luck in the next hunt!

Is there a way to get the rust off to find out?

Nice!!! Congrats!!!

I'm going to go out on a limb and say NOT a coin

I thought perhaps it looks like a Spanish Doubloon, but that is wishful thinking.

Coins don’t rust that much, so probably not.

Looks like an old electrical box knock-out to me,

I with Mud Hut, looks like a 2" knock out?

Getting rust off is easy. The problem doing it is that you often remove any detail it may have in the process. If it is ferrous (sticks to a magnet) it's junk at this point....even if it's a coin.
