Being as it was found in a garden, it makes sense that it is the point of an antique dibber.

Hi,

WElcome to the Forum from my side, too.

These things are usually identfied as "lance shoe" or "ferrule". That means the thing on the non-point end of a spear or lance preventing it from splintering and enabling it to be rammed into the ground.

Myself I am always a bit sceptical since these things could be on any long wood object or pole to be rammed into the earth. If in a garden one could think about beanstalks and the like.
