My neighbor removed his front porch and found this underneath. It's about 5/16" thick. The house was built in 1900.

I searched Google and found something similar on: "...roof of the Chinese restaurant next door and discovered..." Not much information though...

Yep, as that blogsite says, its a decorative cresting used for roof ornamentation.
