S mint marks

I notice that some of my pre-'82 memorial pennies have S mint marks. I know San Francisco minted coins seem to have some significance, but is it enough for me to consider saving these or should they be considered simply copper coins along with the rest of them?

To make a long story short: The Sanfransisco mint used to produce business strikes (coins meant for general circulation) but now they are found in proof sets. Some of the S mint coins were made in smaller numbers way back when thus making them more collectible. I don't recall off hand when the Sanfransisco mint switched over from business strikes to proofs but all that information, as well as the mintages for any given year, are readily available with a google search.
