I live close to what might be one of the best detecting areas. It's never been searched (at least not legally) and never will be. It's very rich in history and legend. Both documented and otherwise. It dates back to before the 1700's. Settlers and Indians both. There are over 60 basements including 3 large hotels. It's on the the trail taken by General John Sullivan. Legend has it he and his officers buried a vast amount of gold and silver there and it's never been recovered. The area is Hemlock Lake, New York. It's a protected water source for the City of Rochester and also a Federally protected Bald Eagle Preserve. I sit here at my computer looking out the window at that area knowing how much trouble I can get into for going there!!! The Eagle Crest Preserve is a 1 year mandatory federal prison term for being within 300 yards of a nest!!
