Any ideas on this find. I think it may be linked to Saint James the greater. His shrine is at Santiago di Compostell in northern Spain. Saint James symbol is the scallop shell. I found this item by an old deserted medieval village in Lincolnshire England. I think the back plate was to keep something in, rather than fix it to anything.
