Hi, can anyone help with this object. I recall seeing one in the British history museum twenty to thirty years ago and thinking "I've got one of those at home" and promptly forgot about it. Now for the life of me I cannot remember anything about origin, date purpose etc. Cheers

Thank you for your help. Yes there are holes in both hands and the rectums of the two items I have named dogs though I have no reason as they may, and probably are effigies.

While on the subject of the dogs they do have primitive/pariah dog characteristics eg: Pointed ears, curled tails and scissor type jaws. I am partial to primitive dog breeds.

Here are few names that will help with your research: Thoth, Horus, and Anubis
All are Egyptian deities. I think the 'dog' figures represent one of the 4 sons of Horus. Anubis is jackel-headed.

Thank you Breezie. Spooky, about four weeks ago I was contemplating having a second tattoo, some forty years after my first. After much deliberation I decided on the Eye Of Horus so I have read quite a bit about Thoth and Horus. Common sense prevailed and I did not have the tattoo. With your opinion I will go over it all again. Once again many thanks.
