I am very seriously considering metal detecting as a hobby and wanted to join up here in order to explore what's going on in the world of treasure hunting 
I've looked at metal detecting before when I have happened upon Youtube videos on the subject or some such happenstance web-surfing encounter. Recently, however, I was at a big sporting goods store with a friend who was doing some shopping. I wandered about the store just looking at whatever and then I came to a section that had metal detectors. I picked up a book and started reading and this whole week, I have been contemplating the purchase of a detector to get started.
I'll be digging through the recommendations to get an idea which detector I will get. I haven't done all the necessary in-depth research yet, nor have I talked with anyone at Kellyco Detectors either, but so far, I've been drawn to the Minelab Sovereign GT Metal Detector or the Minelab Explorer SE Pro.
