Well I'm just enjoyin the summer. The days have been pretty hot and the river has been cold. Today I decided to check out a section of river I have walked many times but just never got a chance to sample. So I set off down the trail around 930 Didn't get into the water till 11am kinda of a long walk down and I wasn't in any rush. The first hour or so never really hit anything worth my time. Finally found myself an area that had potential. My tool kit was light so I figured no reason to play around I would come back another day and put in some real work in. Back to sampling.. Decided to end my day early around 3. Got home a little before 5. kinda a hot walk out but other then that a pretty good day. can't say I struck it rich but got to know another part of the river and explore some new area I haven't been before.. All in all a decent day sampling. The gold in this area seemed a little meaty.. Anyway hopefully it will prove to be a decent little pay area when I get back to it.. But if there is one thing I do know about gold,Its that gold is a dick..

Well hope everyone is getting some gold and having a good year..
2.6g was the day total. Nothing to write home about..

Nice gold....... But I gotta tell ya, ... your panning drives me crazy....:BangHead:.:laughing7: Try one of these.....
I have a couple of them and they are the fastest pan I have ever used.... and they hold your gold.

meh....the last thing I could critique is Victors panning. He def' knows what hes doing. Until your working those cracks in those areas you can't really critique.

Heck Id even second that..

I was not critiquing his sniping abilities, which I agree are very good... I was just saying that to take almost 9 minutes to do a simple pan is a bit long especially given the coarseness of that beautiful gold he got there........ think of all the extra cracks he could be cleaning with that time.

The panning technique was careful and effective and I'm not sure the "critique" was about the panning but a suggestion that he at least try another type of pan. That said, there is really nothing wrong with the one he used. By using the pan referred to in the video, the panning time could have been greatly reduced and to the same results. I use both types but when I concentrate mixed size feed material I use the pan suggested. I mostly use the little one at home for final cleanup of screened concentrates in the minus 30 range.

I am partial to more traditional gold pans. I usually don't get a good clean at the river rather bring it home and do it there. On camera I try to get a good clean to show it off better takes a little extra time. Just depends I suppose. The example vid didn't really sell me on anything. Clean dirt light dirt. Pans easy enough.. Gotta love controlled tests.
I wonder how good that pan would work if most of the dirt is blacksands and heavies..

It works just fine in the real world.... and speeds up that preliminary work at the river.
And yes I agree it is a promotional video , but the pan does really perform, and actually is even faster once you get the hang of it.
For final cleanup I do use a pan similar to yours only in black.
Nothing personal just another pan that works to my liking.....
