Dug this at an 1800's home site. I was thinking it was a walking stick topper or possibly a toilet float valve ball. The landowner said there were no toilets in the home when it was torn down. It appears to be sand cast brass or bronze. It is hollow and about the size of a doorknob. Pic 4 appears to be some text on the object but could just be wishful thinking.

Maybe an Ox knob?
Had never heard of an Ox knob, had to google it and learned something new. You could very well be correct. However, it is not as fancy as some of the examples shown.
Thanks Loco-Digger
