SAND SCOOP my first attempt at making one.

I wanted to build a sand scoop for a while now. I designed it with smaller holes in the botton so smaller targets will keep in the scoop better. So here it is

photo 1.The first photo is some of the material that I used to build the scoop . The BBQ plate and pipe was free, The square mesh display stand I bought at a yard sale for 2 $.and the oven rack .50 cents.
Photo 2. In the next photo I have all ready trimmed the BBQ plate down to size and I"m bending to shape around a pipe
Photo 3. Next I welded the main part of the scoop body together.
Photo 4.Then I cut the bottom screen out to size with air sheers and welded it into place .
Photo 5. I then cut and welded the handle and brace in place. I used a piece of metal tubing from a old bicycle to make the back brace for the handle
Photo 6 Here 's the sand scoop .

I found that sheet metal with holes still took time for sand to flow through, unless it was real fine and dry. Metal wire screen seemed to work better in my homemade scoop. If I remember correctly, 1/2" squares was too small and 3/4" too big. 5/8" was perfect. It still stopped dimes, but sand (especially if gravelly, damp, or having other natural clutter in it) flowed best.
I just cut out the bottom and half the end of a sturdy feed scoop, and used pop rivets with washers.

Hi Saturna, I made this one to mainly hunt In land dry Volley Ball courts. That was my thinking with the smaller side holes ( to move the sands) before dumping them back in the hole being dug. The botton plate the holes are finer to help keep targets like ear rings. I think my next one i am going to build will have some wire mesh in it for lake and river hunting.

Very, Very Nice Job. I definitely like the smaller holes on the bottom. My sand scoop has 5/8" holes on side and bottom. I ended up inserting some 1/2" Galvanized Wire Mesh and Magnets to help Catch those Pain in the *## Bobbie Pins. Just a suggestion Mine has a piece of 5" Stainless Tubing welded to Top of Handle, which makes it a whole lot easier to hold on to while dragging it behind you as you detect the sandy beaches. BG - I have the same magnet on my Lesche. Works good and only cost a hard drive.

(A dead hard computer drive has that rare earth magnet and is very strong).
