Well, the Sand Shark arrived tonight. This thing air tests a gold ring at 2 plus feet! Went out to the yard and it was going off definitively on spots on the yard where other detectors don't even break the threshold. I can't believe the distance this machine can detect at. I can't wait to get it to the beach. I work a few miles away from the beach so I'll try to work the beach tomorrow at lunch.

It's a Tesoro, you will keep that machine forever mate. As beach PIs go, they donot come any better.

;D I've already posted how good these machines have gone for me - Why do Aussie's have to put up with crazy "one dealer in OZ" prices on Tesoro. I'm already a fan and will acquire what I need anyway ...shame we have to go "Black fleabay" to get our fix ...Tesoro please stock up some OZ shops...there are machines out here in use and others who I've heard are using budget pulse machines on the gold fields (of which we have plenty)...these machines for gold / sea we will need upkeep / replacements ... I have nothing against the only current Tesoro dealer here..I would buy if it did not mean an extra $200 - 500 bucks on USA prices, and would recognise that I would have someone to talk to about benefits and problems and act and spread the word accordingly :headbang:.
So your Shark rips... so does mine and I hope I have not been to bold here ... just an opinion and there may be import / aspects I have not thought of.
Anyway, I'm out at 5-00 a.m 2moro on a glitzy beach at low tide rising so I hope I can post a find .... and I'm confident if I wave above it the Sand Shark will tell me.

The Sand Shark is one great machine, be prepared to dig dig dig. It will tire you out.

There is no way on Gods little earth that a private metal detector outlet/buisness in Australia can sell detectors made in the States at the same price as the yank prices.
There is not much profit in detector sales alone and you need to retail other stuff in order to turn enough profit to pay for the running of the buisness and put food on the table.
If you are running the buisness as something to do in your retirement and are working from the house or a shed in the back yard (to eliminate rent)well good luck if you can keep it going.
First you have to get a loan from the bank to set the buisness up and to buy stock, and advertising so there goes at least 100 grand and you have to pay GSt on every order that is over 1000 dollars plus shipping costs and certain Customs charges.
In order to turn a usable profit in any retail buisness you will have to sell your product at a round 3 times what it cost the buisness to put it into stock.
So any Tesoro for eg that costs say 600 bucks RRTL in the states is going to set you back at the very least 850 bucks Aust and even then the dealer will have made buggerall profit which puts him between a rock and a hard place because he cannot ever match the American price and expect to stay in business.

Just an opinion.
