Sand Shark
I just got my Sand Shark this week and I'm not sure if this is typical behavior. When I'm in the surf, right before a wave hits me, the threshold will get higher and then drop as the wave passes. Is this normal? I'm I doing something wrong? It just seems odd to me.

Also, I'm not finding anything real deep. I think the deepest i've dug to find anything was around 8". I'm just wondering if it's operating properly.

Sounds like it is operating correctly. The raise in tone when a wave rolls over the coil because of the increase in the salt content and any black sand present. If you have the disc turned up you are losing a lot of depth, then again, maybe there is nothing there.

There are times when my SS goes nuts if waves roll over the coil. Typically I need to pull the coil from the water, give it a second to "reset" itself, then continue onward.

When constantly submerged, no problems. When constantly dry no problems. 99.9% of the time when at the transition of wet sand to water with salt water rolling over the coil, no problems.

Digging deep holes for finds sometimes a problem.

Freaking out my friends Excalibur if my coil nears his when BSing, humorous.

Finding deep hits and asking my friend to discriminate with his Excalibur before I dig, only to hear him say, "Nothing there" when I find something after I dig it, ::)

Salt water is very conductive and that is why your threshold goes up and down with the waves. And the faster the waves are going the louder it will be up to a point. Salt content in the sand also will help increase this if it is high as the wave comes by .

What size coil, and what are your settings? Are you in Normal or Voltage Controlled Ocilater mode? I have never experienced what you are describing - other than slight rises in threshold when ingressing or egressing the water..

Congrats on finding your recent rings and earring! Siver, Titnium and GOLD!
