Tesoro Tiger Shark/Garrett Ace 250
My TS arrived today and I have assembled it and played around a bit. I have read the manual, but it ddoes not talk to the care and feeding of your MD. Any suggestions of how to care for it, as far what you use and when. Do you use a certain product for normal MD and different for when you are at the beach? I just want to make certain I am properly taking care of my MD, so it lasts awhile.

Thanks,
BH

iv had 3 of them...great detector! about the only thing i did was be sure use Silicone Grease on the battery door gasket each time you change batterys.and rinse the whole detector off with fresh water if it was in salt water.use caution on how you mount the box so not to flex the coil wire or head phone wires where they connect.other than that..have at it!..never had not 1 thing go bad with my 3! if they had tone ID , id have 4 of them! good luck Dixie Digger

Dixie Digger is right on about the silicone grease use on the gasket. Make sure you have a large loop at the bottom of the coil wire so the coil can flex some and not put strain on the cable. Fasten the shaft to your waist with a bungie cord so it is right there when you need it.

The Tiger Shark is a great detector for the beach and will handle the saltwater well too since it has a saltwater mode switch. If it becomes a little unstabe in the shallow waves it is because there is more black sand there at that location.

Hi folks,

First of all Merry Christmas!

I just read Sandman's post about the TS being a little unstable in shallow waves. I'm really glad I saw that because I've had a problem md'ing right at the edge of the water. I had actually given up looking in the water for now, matter of fact I signed on today to ask if I need to ground balance the TS when it's on salt mode? I got it ground balanced and working on the dry sand in normal mode, but I really want to get the best out of the TS. I'm thinking about going down to the east coast of FL in February and I'd really like to use it there.

Thanks,
Sue :)

You ground balance in all metal-fast and normal operation. The being unstable in the very shallow water where the waves wash over it can not really be helped. You could go inside and lower the sensitivity. This being unstable is caused by the black sand and different salt content. If you were to walk out a little farther you would find it settling down. All detectors can have a problem there, PI's included. Some locations have this trouble and others don't. There is nothing wrong with your detector and it doesn't suck...it's the area.

Good Luck,
Sandman

BigHog,

Everyone has given you good advise on the TS. I would add this: Only do battery changes at home on the work bench or kitchen table. The reason for this is the battery/front panel cover and the housing box have got to be perfectly clean when you put it back together. A couple of grains of sand or dirt and you will get a leak. Also if you are running your sensitivity on the too high side, the detector will be more apt to get a little squirrely like you described. Go to my eBay store link below and see how I hipmount my TS.
