Saturday's Civil War hunt in Tennessee

Invited Bob (Hornbush) and Frank from Cleveland, TN to hunt with Sham and I Saturday. We started out at a site that I have hunted a few times and found some good things there. Landowner said they cleared some trees in the woods so we thought we would start there. My first find was a Burnside cartridge. Seems all we could find in the woods was camp lead or round balls. I then thought that maybe we should move down to the pasture and hunt an area where I have found about 50 flat buttons from an old log cabin that used to sit on the property. After a short hunt Bob found a flat button. We then decided to go hunt another site where we have found hundreds of bullets, buttons, bayonet and other great finds. There Bob found a very nice Eagle button. About five minutes later I found one. It was beautiful with nice green patina and in great shape. As I tried to remove it from the dirt clod the eagle front disintegrated into about 30 pieces. Well after a few choice words I put it away and continued hunting. I also found a knife blade and a piece of a pocket knife. We all had a great time and everyone found some good finds. It was good to get out and hunt with everyone before we all head out to DIV in about 4 weeks. I also included a video that Bob made. My two bullets and percussion cap were from a short hunt Sham and I did at second site a couple weeks ago.

Sham also found a couple more percussion caps and a pocket knife as well. We have found several pocket knives from this camp.

We know only too well about the exploding eagle buttons Randy. Nice finds and glad you got out. HH, Q.

Nice Video... It has been many years since I have been able to put the coil to Tennessee soil. Use to do it in early 70's to early 80's around Stones River, Milton and Snow Hill, where my dad once farmed. I use to exhibit my finds in Florida. It attracted so much interest and offers that I began buying relics from Hicklin during his early shop years and re-sold some of them. The profit I made from that; included with yearly clad coin totals (found in Florida); and once, money earned from writing an article about investing in CW relics--and sold to Jess Publishing, all went to purchases of Conferedate relics which I still have to this day. Notably, I drove through Cleveland area for many a year travelling to visit the wife's family in Ohio and I took note of the terrain. I had some basic knowledge of the CW history in the area, but not well-researched. However, I suspected the relics will be up, or down, but rarely between on account of the terrain. Your video brings back good memories. Thanks SD

Thanks Quindy. Most of my buttons that disintegrated were still in the hole. I have found only a few that came out in one piece that blew up after I got it out. It is very frustrating to see such a nice button only to have it end up in pieces.
